Introduction to Volunteer Work

Volunteering has been a significant part of my life since I was a child, and I find it profoundly satisfying. Though the experiences are too numerous to recount all in one go, they each hold a special place in my heart. Whether it was planting trees for an impoverished school, assisting the elderly with their daily chores, or participating in community events, these experiences have left an indelible mark on me.

Early Volunteer Experiences

From a young age, I was involved in various forms of volunteering. One of the earliest and most enduring memories is planting trees at a local school. This act of promoting environmental awareness and contributing to the school’s green spaces was a formative experience. Additionally, I've taken care of elderly neighbors by helping them with tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and driving them around. Yardwork was another common task, which included tending to gardens and maintaining outdoor areas.

During my university days, I volunteered at UCLA Hospital as a patient transport assistant. Pro Bono legal work, Secret Santa, and other small acts of kindness rounded out my university experience.

After finishing my university, I continued my volunteer work, often inclined by divine guidance. As a doctor, I volunteered at various community events, conducting health check-ups, and offering medical advice. For a brief period, I worked as a hospital volunteer alongside physicians, helping with various tasks and gaining valuable experience. I also gave community lectures and classes on End of Life Care and DPA paperwork, ensuring that people were well-informed and prepared.

Church and Historical Volunteer Work

In my church and local community, I was involved in numerous events, including craft sales and volunteer work at the Sacramento History Museum, where I participated in various art and research projects. My efforts extended to assisting at a local Railroad Museum and helping my wife's junior high school with librarian-type events. Each of these experiences has taught me valuable lessons and provided me with a better understanding of the community around me.

Thrift Store and Personal Acts of Unselfishness

More recently, I worked at a thrift store that supports a women’s helping organization. This was not a voluntary role; it was something God led me to do. My involvement in unselfish acts continues to this day, with my primary form being being a mother, though I often face challenges and moments of doubt. This act, more than anything, demonstrates the true depth of unselfishness in my life.

A Heartwarming Experience

During my time in the Air Force, I was part of a search party for a missing girl. Despite the extensive search, which covered a substantial area, the search party did not find her. It was a deeply emotional time. Two months later, hunters discovered the girl's body near the area we had searched. This experience humbled me and reinforced the importance of a search and rescue operation.

Though the outcome was tragic, it underscored the crucial role that volunteers and organizations can play in these situations. It is a stark reminder of the impact that community spirit and vigilance can have, even in the face of adversity.
