Do You Believe Quora Ignores BNBR Policy? My Perspective

Recently, there has been a widespread belief that Quora users are ignoring BNBR (Bullshit, Not Bro) policy and that Quora seems to be turning a blind eye to rule-breaking behaviors.

As someone who has been on the platform since August 2017, my own experience suggests that Quora still actively enforces the BNBR policy. However, I do recognize that the moderation team might have been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of complaints, leading to a more lenient approach in certain cases.

Arguments for Quora's Inaction

Some argue that Quora's lack of action on rule-breaking posts is due to their need to create more bot profiles to foster controversy. This strategy could be seen as a way to generate engagement and attract more visitors. However, allowing such practices could ultimately harm the quality and integrity of the platform.

Quora's reputation for maintaining high-quality content depends on strict adherence to their policies. If they fail to do so, it could lead to a decline in user trust and a deteriorating user experience. This is especially true given the platform's history, much like that of Yahoo Answers, which suffered from poor moderation and user engagement.

Moderator Overwhelm

It's possible that the moderators at Quora have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of BNBR complaints. Multi-faceted rule-breaking scenarios can be difficult to manage, and the creation of multiple fake profiles could indeed cause confusion.

Personal Experience and Views

From my standpoint, Quora has not changed its commitment to the BNBR policy since my time on the site. They have consistently backed me up in situations where I faced personal attacks or offenses. My reports of insults, harassment, or abuse have been thoroughly upheld, with no exceptions mentioned.

I have only reported an instance once when a comment under my own answer was not removed. Even then, I reported it to see what would happen rather than for any particular reason. Since then, I have not encountered any issue that required reporting the same nature, and I have never seen any rule-breaking content that should have been removed but was allowed to stand.

I believe Quora's user-reported moderation model is the most effective approach. Moderators act based on what users report, which ensures that the community enforces its own norms. Users can voice their concerns, and if a post violates the terms of service, it can be removed. This decentralized approach is much more efficient and can adapt to the ever-changing landscape of online discourse.
