Companions from Bree to Rivendell
Frodo Baggins, having accepted the perilous task of destroying the One Ring, sets off from Bree on a quest that will be fraught with danger and uncertainty. On September 30th of the year 3018 in the Third Age, Frodo sets out from Bree with four companions:
Samwise Gamgee Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry) Peregrin Took (Pippin) Aragorn, the Ranger of Eriador, also known as StriderAlong with these companions, a loyal horse named Bill is also in the party to help them travel. This group of five embarks on a challenging and dangerous journey filled with danger and intrigue.
Joining the Party: Glorfindel
As the journey progresses, the group is joined by their first external member, Glorfindel, on October 18th. Glorfindel, an Elf-lord of Gondolin, arrives late on the path to Weathertop. Accompanied by his magnificent horse, Glorfindel becomes their sixth companion for the remainder of the journey to the Fords of Bruinen, and eventually, Rivendell. Frodo and COMPANY therefore have five companions for the last part of their journey together.
Key Stops and Events Along the Way
The journey from Bree to Rivendell is not without its challenges. Below, we highlight the key events and locations during their journey:
Bree
Frodo's journey begins in Bree, a free town that lays at the crossroads of the Shire and the lands beyond. It is here that Frodo and his companions colate on their mission. They spend their first night at the Prancing Pony, a tavern run by Bar Limbeak, where they first encounter Strider. Frodo is initially suspicious of Strider but later thanks him for his help and guidance.
Weathertop
During their journey, the group is attacked by the Nazg?l on Weathertop. They are chased and escape the Black Riders, but Frodo receives a nasty wound from an attack by the Witch-king. Glorfindel joins them at this point and provides additional support.
Gladden Fields
A crucial event on their journey is the confrontation with Gollum. At the Gladden Fields, a desolate area, Frodo and his group encounter the wretched creature, who has a long history with the Ring. Gollum's loyalty to the Ring causes him to betray Frodo and his friends, leading to a series of dangerous events.
Fords of Bruinen
Approaching Rivendell, the group must cross the Fords of Bruinen, a dangerous crossing of a fast river. At the Fords, Glorfindel provides the final push to their journey with his horse crossing the river swiftly and safely.
Rivendell
Rivendell acts as the final destination on the journey from Bree. Here, the group rests and reunites with Arwen, Elrond's daughter, and receives support and counsel from Elrond, the leader of the Elves in Rivendell.
