From Amature to Widespread Recognition: My Journey as a Quora Writer
Looking back, my journey on Quora has been a journey of significant transformation. It's been a journey that has seen me grow from an amateur writer to someone who now has close to 4,000 followers. Here, I’m sharing the evolution of my writing journey on the platform and some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
From Amature to Notable
Back when I started, things were very different for me. The very first answer I penned was about evolution. The second one delved into philosophy. Interestingly, despite writing on widely different topics, the philosophy answer received greater recognition.
My writing journey on Quora began with a mix of thrill and discomfort. It was, and still is, not easy to express oneself on a digital platform, especially when one’s audience comprises knowledgeable individuals. As I plunged into this new world, I realized that what I thought might be insightful could often fall short of expectations.
Evolution of Writing Style
The initial struggles with finding my footing were significant. With each answer, I deleted countless drafts that didn’t meet the mark. Often, the conclusion would be that the post didn’t warrant being shared anymore. However, these challenges were part of my journey, helping me refine my writing style. Today, my answers are well-presented, with a focus on delivering value to the readers.
Recognition and Growth
As time moved on, my recognition on Quora increased. I had fewer upvotes in the early stages—ranging between 8 and 9 per answer. Today, my answers often receive upvotes in the range of 80 to 90. The comments have also grown from non-existent to an average of 10 to 20 comments per answer. This transformation has been a reflection of my evolution as a writer.
From being recognized only among a few school friends, my writing now garners attention from users across the platform. This change is not just about numbers but also about the quality and resonance of my answers. While I can take pride in the recognition, it’s important to remember that not everyone is connecting with my material.
Personal Growth and Challenges
Writing on Quora has taught me several valuable lessons. One of the most challenging aspects of this platform is expressing oneself clearly and concisely. Unlike speaking in front of a live audience, where immediate feedback is available, writing requires a different level of thoughtfulness and clarity. I have learned to limit my content to what I truly believe can be conveyed effectively in written form.
The growth from 1–200 followers in 1.5 years to reaching 1,000 in a month highlights the impact of just a couple of stand-out answers. However, it's important to note that not all followers interact actively. Some follow only to read a particular answer and unfollow just as quickly. Despite these fluctuations, I remain grateful to have a few genuine and supportive followers.
Writing and Speeches
One of the unique parts of my journey on Quora is the stark contrast between my speechwriting and my answers. When I write speeches, the content is bullet-pointed and informal, often lacking full sentences or explanations. Given this, it can be challenging to translate that into something that performs well on Quora. I often receive requests to write more detailed and discursive content, but achieving this would deviate from my usual style.
I enjoy providing good, inspirational answers, but I sometimes feel the constraints of my preferred concise style. Nonetheless, I strive to provide quality content that resonates with my readers.
Final Thoughts
Writing on Quora has been a rewarding journey, but it comes with its own set of challenges. Remaining true to my style while trying to cater to the platform's expectations is a constant balance. I aim to continue my journey, writing until I find it’s no longer something my readers are willing to engage with.
