Understanding the Prevalence of Toxicity in Modern Society
Throughout my life, I encountered a recurring theme: the presence of elitist racists, sexists, and individuals who operate with the sole intention of making others feel bad. This pattern of behavior was unexpectedly unsettling. It originates from a deeply rooted dynamic within society where people often choose to embrace toxic traits rather than positive ones.
Why Toxicity Thrives
The journey to understanding this phenomenon began at the age of 30. Most people, in their attempts to secure their existence, develop an extreme sense of insecurity. They, consequently, turn to toxicity as a means of asserting control and power, often feeding off the insecurities of those around them. This becomes a cycle where toxic behavior fuels more toxic behavior, creating a toxic environment wherever they go.
One common reasoning for this behavior is the ease in which people make the wrong choices. This is a reflection of individual choices rather than any inherent evolutionary or instinctual drive. It is paradoxically easier to make negative and toxic choices than it is to forge positive and loving ones. Patience and perseverance, qualities necessary for a truly noble and decent life, are not always valued or sought after.
The Rarity of Noble and Decent Individuals
To find truly noble and decent individuals, one must search for those with a strong moral character, sound ethics, and virtuous behavior. These are the diamonds in the rough; rare and unique, yet often overlooked in favor of more common, less valuable traits. It’s easier to spot the negative traits of others because they are more prevalent, much like in nature where survival of the fittest prevails.
Consciousness and Instincts
Understanding the source of toxicity requires an exploration of human consciousness and the innate aspects of our nature. While we have managed to develop high-level social structures and cultures, the fundamental animal instincts still reside deep within us. In our quest to elevate ourselves, we sometimes reek of the baser aspects of our being. Despite claiming dominion over the planet, we are just another form of animal, albeit bipedal and often in a chaotic dance through time.
It is worth noting that the future of our species is uncertain. Many believe we may be on a path to extinction, but there is beauty in our existence, albeit subjective to our consciousness. Humans, flawed and unique, will always be a part of this world.
By recognizing and understanding these aspects, we can work towards creating a more positive and less toxic society. It is our responsibility to seek out and value the rare gems of decency in an often murky world.
