Reflecting on Allegations Against Kashmiri Leaders and the Reality of Change in Jammu and Kashmir

Recently, Kashmiri leader Shehla Rashid has accused the Indian Army of indiscriminately picking up men and raiding houses, while also claiming that people in Jammu and Kashmir are being tortured. While such claims generate significant media attention, it is important to critically evaluate these statements and understand the underlying context and reality on the ground.

1. Initial Reaction and Context

The allegations made by Shehla Rashid and her “fake news” charge is not surprising when viewed in the context of her past actions. She is well known as a co-partner of the Tukde Tukde Gang and an active member of the JNU Students Network. Her history of making baseless and unsubstantiated claims is well-documented, and her intentions are clear – to garner attention and perpetuate a narrative of conflict without evidence.

2. Analysis of the Allegations

Shehla Rashid has asserted that there is a violation of human rights post the revocation of Article 370. It is crucial to evaluate these claims by considering the actual events on the ground. Several points need to be considered:

The allegations she made are completely baseless and unverified. This is a deliberate attempt to disrupt the peace and send a false message to the world. The aim is to gain sympathy based on fictitious reports of human rights violations.

3. Reality on the Ground

The reality of Jammu and Kashmir must be viewed from a factual standpoint. Here are some points that highlight the current situation:

Support for the Revocation: The people of Jammu and Kashmir overwhelmingly support the revocation of Article 370 and the move towards the Union of India. For the past seven decades, Kashmir’s special status was the main hindrance to development. Now, with the change, the focus can finally be on development and progress.

Restoration of Communication: While the initial restrictions were in place, the situation has since normalized. More than 90% of landline communication has been restored, and internet services are now available in tourist places. Soon, everything will be back to normal like any other state.

Improvement in Literacy and Education: The literacy rate in Kashmir is 57%, significantly lower than the national average of 74%. Improving education and literacy levels is a primary goal of the current administration, which aims to empower the people and remove poverty. Numerous new educational opportunities and regulatory reforms are underway to improve social and economic conditions.

Addressing Corruption: Perhaps one of the most significant changes is the reduction of corruption. Historically, the region has struggled with high levels of corruption and poor governance. With the changes, there is hope for better leadership and regulations that can enhance the standard of living for the people.

Conclusion

It is important to critically analyze and counteract the rhetoric of individuals like Shehla Rashid who use false narratives to gain attention. The reality is that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are happy with the changes that have been brought about. The focus of the new administration should be on tangible progress and development, rather than perpetuating an air of conflict and grievance.
