Why Are Comments Disallowed on My Posts?
Recently, a random internet stranger asked a question on a platform, alleging that I, or someone like me, 'lack the necessary intelligence required to carry out' certain actions. However, the reality is quite different. This article aims to clarify why comments are sometimes disallowed, whether it's on my posts or on those of others.
Comments on My Posts Are Always Enabled
The comments on my posts are always enabled. Therefore, if someone is unable to comment on a post, it is usually due to one of the following reasons:
The user who posted the comments has blocked the commentator or has disabled comments on their own post. The user attempting to comment has been blocked by the original poster. Comments have been specifically disabled by the poster, often for reasons such as previous negative or disruptive comments. My Approach to Commenting
I started turning off comments on my answers in 2022, after Quora became overwhelmed with trolls and lost its moderation staff. I believe that by allowing a period for feedback, I can avoid the need for constant moderation. However, for posts that are meant to be conversational or where continuous engagement is encouraged, comments remain open.
Dealing with Inappropriate Comments
If a comment section contains inappropriate or disruptive content, the post owner may choose to disable comments. This is a justified action to maintain a positive and respectful environment. By allowing a limited time for feedback, I ensure that my content reflects the collective thoughts and interests of my audience.
Private Messaging and Intentions
The original question was intended to be a private message directed at a specific Quora user. However, it was posted as a public question, which can cause confusion and misunderstandings. The correct way to send a private message is through the 'Message' option on the intended user's profile page. Many users do not allow such messages, which further explains the inability to comment.
Conclusion: Reflection and Discretion
While it is true that I do not necessarily agree with or respond to every comment or private message, this does not mean that I lack the intelligence or capability to handle such situations. It is a matter of discretion and a clear understanding of online community guidelines. For some users, their intentions are more important than their actions, but for others, like myself, the action itself can speak louder. Trust and respect are key in any online interaction, and I believe it's essential to maintain a level of transparency and honesty in these interactions.
