The Mystery of Quorans Who Don’t Follow Anyone
The Mystery of Quorans Who Don’t Follow Anyone
Introduction
Why do some popular Quorans choose to follow no one on the platform? This article explores the reasoning behind this intriguing phenomenon and discusses the importance of personal rapport and feed quality in using Quora.
The Purpose of Following Others
Presumably, those who follow popular Quorans want to see the content they post. However, it does not necessarily mean that they want to see what others post. It is much alike the reason why Paul McCartney has shown little interest in checking in with others to see what new songs they have come up with. Popular Quorans who have chosen not to follow anyone have their reasons.
Creating vs. Consuming
Some Quorans are here solely to write answers, never reading other people's answers aside from when they specifically want to avoid redundancy. If that is their chosen usage, then why follow others? I don't think it’s a good choice, but people like Matt Riggsby certainly contribute a lot of knowledge to Quora using it like that.
I follow only six people, and the answer to the question is simple: I spend almost all my time sharing answers and not reading. Plus, I don't follow what anyone else is up to. Only one person I follow comes up on my radar since we are both admins for a SPACE on Quora. When your time is spent creating, following is pointless because you are never gonna consume their content anyway. And that would defeat the purpose of following altogether.
Respecting Individual Preferences
Some Quorans not follow anyone. In my opinion, we should respect their decision. Some have joined the platform just to read and observe the happenings, and everyone on this platform has their own precepts and perceptions. Hence, we should not expect from others what we expect.
Employing the Right Strategy
I scratch my head on this one. I have come across some Quorans with as many as 5K followers who follow no one. It's their business. But what fun is that?
As of now, I follow 76 Quorans. Some of them may not be classified as 'popular' because they don't have a certain number of followers but they provide wonderful answers which I love to read. I have followed my seniors from my college and a few friends due to my personal rapport with them. Moreover, they upvote some good answers, which helps with my feed. I am following a few celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and the President of Canada, Justin Trudeau. They write amazingly well. One can’t really say that I’m following no one on Quora.
I recall having this conversation with Rohit Kapoor, where he mentioned that his feed was full of absurd answers. At that time, he was following close to 26K people and had a following of 70K. It is quite evident that he had a pathetic feed. I asked him to unfollow everyone and just follow the people he would want to read. Now he is following only two people, which eventually helped him with a less cluttered feed and quality answers started appearing. I don’t know how Quora's algorithm works while presenting answers in the feed, but it surely takes the answers upvoted by the people you follow into consideration. Again, saying here that he is full of ego that he is following only two people with a humongous following would be wrong; he just wants good stuff in his feed.
Conclusion
There can be various reasons why a certain Quoran follows less number of people, but surely fueling one’s ego with it isn’t one of them. What matters most is the quality of the content, and the individual rapport one has with other Quorans.
