Why You Don't Need to Feel Special and How to Embrace Your Authentic Self

In the commercial world, the concept of being 'special' can often be a double-edged sword. Many individuals strive to achieve a sense of uniqueness and value, yet they often struggle with the feeling of being special. It's important to understand that true self-worth is more about acceptance and authenticity than about external validation.

Struggling to Feel Special

Some people, despite achieving a lot in their lives, still do not feel a sense of specialness within their minds. This is because they tirelessly try to prove something to someone—maybe to their parents, society, teachers. This pressure and competition culture can fuel a belief that their achievements and better performance should be meant to please those whom they consider gods. When they are pleased by them, then they feel special. However, this approach to life often turns into a struggle to feel special.

Reversing the Script

To break this cycle, one must flip the script and start doing things for oneself. It is essential to recognize that doing something is more about personal satisfaction and impact on the world than merely seeking approval. Here’s an exercise you can try:

Try This:

Do whatever you do just because you can, without the pressure to prove yourself to others. Acknowledge that the world, as a concept, is just another set of people who can be your role models for behavior and performance, but not your ultimate judges. Focus on improving not for others, but for yourself and for the betterment of the world. Understand that those who hold prizes, positions, and power are sources to learn from, not targets to emulate. Realize that you know nothing about their lives except for their abilities, so admire those abilities but leave them at that.

Self-Acceptance and Mental Health

Feeling good about yourself and recognizing that you have something special about you can do wonders for your mental health. However, I don't see this as necessarily important. Everyone has a unique perspective and value, and it's crucial to embrace your authentic self without the pressure of being special.

Feeling special often leads to a sense of insecurity and reliance on external validation. Instead, focusing on your own growth and happiness can lead to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Authentic self-acceptance is key to mental well-being, and it’s something you can achieve by living your life authentically and without the need for external validation.

Living a life driven by personal growth and inner satisfaction can greatly improve your mental health. Recognize that your worth and value lie in your unique abilities and contributions to the world, not in the eyes of others. Embrace your uniqueness and live a life that is meaningful and authentic to you.

Everyone is special in their own way, but the true measure of self-worth is not in the feeling of being special. Instead, it's in the ability to live authentically and make a positive impact on the world. Embrace who you are, pursue your passions, and live a life that brings you joy and fulfillment.
